Westlife have the best life in China! | 25th Feb, '12
Boys bowled over by country and people.
Pop sensations Westlife are taking time out of their farewell tour of China to enjoy the top tourist sights.
The four pals posted a photo online as they posed in the famous Tiananmen Square in Beijing yesterday.
The band had performed before 15,000 fans in the MasterCard Centre in the city the night before. Band member Nicky Byrne tweeted: “Taking in the sights in China... Tiananmen square & the Forbidden City.’’
A spokesperson for the stars revealed Westlife are having the time of their lives in China. “They’ve really been bowled over by the country and the Chinese people — probably because they have more time to see the place this time.
“In terms of concerts, they said it’s the new America. There’s a massive population and a huge appetite for live music and they were amazed by the rapturous welcome they’ve received in China,” the spokesperson added. Westlife’s farewell tour of China is expected to earn them a whopping €5m.
The group will play in seven different cities for the final time in their 14-year history. The last Westlife tour is scheduled to visit the cities of Hangzhou, Chendu, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Hong Kong during the tour, which continues until March 3.

Kian Egan Will Not Spoil Son! | 25th Feb, '12
Koa will have to earn his own money.
Voice of Ireland judge Kian Egan’s son Koa will not be given a life of luxury without earning it for himself.
The Westlife singer yesterday recalled that, when he was young, his late father Kevin Egan was the only earner in a three-bedroom house with seven children.
Kian said Koa’s birth in December to wife Jodi Albert brought them both ultimate happiness. But he said that despite his own wealth, Koa will not be handed a luxury lifestyle on a platter.
Kian said: “As children, we had no concept of money because we never knew it was an issue. But it must have been, with dad the only income-earner in the house and seven children to be reared... my son will learn as life goes on that he must earn what he wants.”

Kian backs The Artists' Charter! | 25th Feb, '12
Meanwhile, Kian Egan has rallied behind Sharon Corr's (41) barrister partner Gavin Bonnar's fight against copyright infringement in the music industry. The Westlife singer yesterday added his name to the chorus of artists in support of The Artists' Charter. He joins Bressie and a host of Irish music makers who support the charter, which will be launched at The Music Show in Dublin's RDS this Saturday.
"I am delighted to back The Artists' Charter. Fair remuneration for artists is a human right, as the Charter says," he said in a statement issued to Hotpress yesterday. "We in the creative community have been ignored for too long in the file-sharing debate and the music industry simply cannot continue shedding jobs and revenues to the tune of billions of dollars. The Charter gives artists the chance to finally speak with one voice and say no more. I am backing it 100% and urge all you lovers of music to do likewise."

Kian Egan's wife Jodi Albert ready to work it! | 11th Feb, '12
Westlife star, Kian Egan (31), revealed that wife, Jodi Albert (28), has no plans to remain a stay-at-home mum to their baby son, Koa.
Instead Jodi is in the process of signing up with a top agent and is itching to get back to work just weeks after giving birth.
“Jodi is just not one to sit around and she’s keen to be active and keep working,’’ he said. “She’s already up and at it and she’d love to get back working if the right thing came along.’’
He revealed the couple were thrilled to hear in recent weeks that she’s succeeded in getting signed to a top agency.
“I was delighted for her and we probably got over excited about it but it’s a big agency and they’ll be looking out for opportunities for her in TV and acting, that sort of thing,’’ he said. “She loves being with Koa but we can manage if other work she wants to do comes along.’’
Pop millionaire Kian and the former Wonderland star Jodi welcomed their baby boy just days before Christmas in Sligo General Hospital on Tuesday
Koa, who weighed in at a bouncing 8 pounds and 2 ounces, arrived two weeks early after a due date of January 1.
Keen surfing couple Kian and Jodi revealed that the couple had come across the unusual name in a baby-name list ‘and liked it’ and it’s association with Hawaii’s great surfing.
Kian and Jodi were gutted last September when their girlband Wonderland was dramatically dropped by their record company, Mercury.
The news came just three months after the launch of their debut album.

I can't wait to join Louis on X-Factor! | 11th Feb, '12
This was posted on westlife.gr last night but the article is originally from the 5th feb, it's an extension of the rumours that Kian will join the XF panel. We've yet to have proper confirmation though, but it is all rather exciting!
WESTLIFE STAR EYES TV ROLE
LOUIS WALSH and Kian Egan will join forces on a new X Factor dream team, we can reveal.
Sources close to the hit show said Simon Cowell plans to replace Gary Barlow with the Westlife star.
Kian will join his former manager on the panel alongside two as yet unconfirmed judges.
An insider said: “It’s looking like next year’s X Factor will be 50% Irish.
“Simon is very interested in Kian, and Louis is the only judge to have kept his spot on the show all along.
“Producers think Louis and Kian would really spark off each other and bring a new energy to the show.
“Nothing is set in stone yet, but it would be a dream pairing.”
Kian confessed he would love to be a judge on the X Factor, but only if he could work alongside Louis – he would never take his job.
He told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “I would never do that to Louis. I am what I am because of Louis and I would never want to be the type of person who comes in and takes his place on anything.
“If I was told it was either me or Louis, then I would say, ‘this is Louis’ job and it’s what he’s been doing for many years.’
“The dream come true would be me and him sitting side-by-side on the X Factor panel.
“That would be amazing. I think we would be great together. We worked side-by-side on Wonderland, the girl band, and obviously with Westlife. We’re great friends, we talk all the time on the telephone.”
And Kian believes that after his time as a coach on The Voice he would have the necessary experience to take on the X Factor.
The 31-year-old added: “I’ve definitely really, really enjoyed doing it and I think it would feel quite natural to do something like that.
“After doing The Voice, which is a really amazing show to be part of, I wouldn’t rule it out. It’s great to be associated with being on the biggest show on telly.
“When I heard that I was being linked I thought, ‘wow, that’s a lovely thing to be said’.”
And Kian admitted he never misses an episode of the X Factor, which would make it a “big honour” to appear on the show.
He added: “Of course, I would still watch the X Factor. Obviously Louis has been a judge on it for so long and Westlife have been signed to Simon Cowell for the past 15 years.
“We’ve been heavily associated with the X Factor after being on the show so many times. And at this stage it would be a big honour to be on it.”

Bressie & Kians Warfare just banter! | 11th Feb, '12
'THE Voice of Ireland' coach Bressie has reassured fans there's nothing scripted about his verbal warfare with Westlife's Kian Egan.
The former Blizzards frontman insisted: "It's definitely not an act, there's nothing contrived about it. If we had to put on an act, I wouldn't have done the show.
"We're very different and we've completely different approaches to what we're looking for. Having said that, I've a huge amount of respect for him and what he has done, and anything we say to each other is the type of banter you'd get with a mate in a pub.

Will Westlife's Kian Egan take Louis Walsh's chair as an X Factor judge? | 3rd Feb, '12
Wounded Simon Cowell is not in a mood to be messed with and is considering ‘sweeping changes’ to The X Factor later this year, I’m told.
Following his purge of close friend Paula Abdul, as well as Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones, from the U.S. version earlier in the week, he’s turning his attention to the UK show.
But ITV executives are urging him ‘not to throw the baby out with the bathwater’.
The first decisions to be made are expected to be about the future of host Dermot O’Leary and judge Gary Barlow. ITV would rather they stay but Cowell is not certain.
One new name in the mix to replace the Take That star if he were to depart the talent show is Westlife member Kian Egan.
The Irish singer turned music manager has impressed on his home country’s version of new talent show The Voice and plans to move into the TV world full-time following the band’s farewell tour.
My source says: ‘Kian is highly rated and would be a perfect judge, although whether he is considered will depend on what happens with Louis Walsh.’
Show insiders believe it would be impossible to have both Louis and Kian on the show because they are both so closely connected to the Irish music scene (Louis is Westlife’s manager). ‘In reality, Kian can only be considered if Louis doesn’t come back,’ a source explains.

The midweeks weren't nice reading for us 'lifers as is showed their Greatest Hits album had fallen out of the top 40. But you were wrong if you thought it would be that easy, today's official album chart has just been announced and I'm delighted to say they climbed right back in at #39.
Wow, we are into the 10th week of the Greatest Hits charting in Ireland and it's an amazing chart run so far.
This week unfortunately see's the album drop 10 places but at this stage, 10 weeks after initial release and no promo in a long time it's still doing extremely well.
Westlife to tour China in February! | 20th Jan, '12
Westlife are ready to embark on a major expansion drive in the East! They may be on their final Greatest Hits tour, but the mega-selling Irish pop band have lined up a 15 date tour in China, which begins in the last week of February.
“We were there last year and did four arenas of 15,000 each,” Kian Egan told Hot Press. “They were great gigs. This time around, we’ll be doing 15 shows, and the arenas are the same size, so it’s amazing. Those venues are similar to the ones we’re be doing in the UK.”
Opening in Beijing on February 22, the band also takes in dates in Hangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Chengdu and Guangzhou.
“We broke through there with ‘You Raise Me Up’, which was in 2005 and 2006,” Egan added. “We hadn’t been back till last year, but this is a phenomenal step up. The language barrier doesn’t seem to make any difference – they still sing the words to all the songs.”
China is going through an economic boom at the moment, which is driving a process of change in what was once a forbidding territory.
“They’re planning to build fifty-five airports there over the next ten years,” Egan revealed. “It is a measure of just how quickly things are changing.”
In a time of economic difficulty, it is a whole new world of opportunity for the music industry. Watch this space.
If anyone has a full list of the tour dates and venues, would you mind sending me a link please.

First News Interviews Kian | 25th Jan, '12
After 14 years as a band, Westlife are going their separate ways. With their Greatest Hits album, last single and farewell tour in the pipeline, the boys are saying goodbye to their fans. We caught up with Kian to talk about the end of Westlife.
How does it feel now you have announced you’re splitting up?
Well, it’s fine, you know. I think we all feel like we’re doing the right thing and it’s the right time. We’ve spent a long time dedicating our lives to Westlife and to each other. I think we’ve all kind of come to the stage where we’re all wanting to spend more time with family and things like that and it just kind of feels right. We feel like we’ve been to so many places and done things we’d never thought we’d get to do. We never wanted it to end badly, we always wanted to end it as friends. We’ve managed to do that after 14 years, so we really feel like we’ve made the right decision.
Does it still feel like you’ve got quite a long to way go, with the tour next year?
Yes, it is a bit like that. I don’t think it feels real to us at the minute. None of it feels real, because we’re still in the middle of it. We’re in the middle of the promotional tour and we’re doing interviews all the time, we’re talking about it all. It’s so strange, but I don’t think we’ve really realised what we’ve achieved and I don’t think we’ve realised what we’ve been doing for the last 14 years. We’re ending with a big concert so, when it all comes to an end, it’ll be quite an emotional moment for us all. Then it’s going to be interesting. It’ll be an awkward few months, seeing what it’s like to live without Westlife. That’ll be when it becomes real.
You’ve just released your greatest hits album. Was it a tough job deciding which songs to include?
We just said put everything that we’ve ever released on this album. There are two different versions of it – there’s one that’s got the definitive hits, all the number ones and the big singles. We wanted to make sure all the big moments are on there. Then they were like: “We’re going to leave off songs that were number two.” But, if it was number two, why wouldn’t we put it on? So it was a little bit funny in that way, but there’s also another version that has literally all the songs ever released. That is amazing, and it’s got every video we’ve ever made on there as well, so that’s the lump package and that’s the one to go for, it’s brilliant.
How long would it take to listen to that whole album then?
I’d say probably four hours. Three to four hours. Maybe more!
Do you have your own personal favourite song or video from the past?
I think songs like Flying Without Wings and You Raise Me Up and World Of Our Own. Those three songs are massive moments in our career and they still feel like we recorded them yesterday. So, from that perspective, they’re amazing songs, but then I remember I loved shooting Fool Again off the first album in Mexico. There were so many different things we did over the years and it’s just crazy looking back on it and trying to pull out moments that were better than others.
Westlife are the longest-running boy band. Why do you think it is that you’ve had such a successful career for so long?
I genuinely believe it’s because we just didn’t argue with each other to the point of disliking each other. We never let things escalate. We had a genuine friendship with each other. From the early days that was the natural thing that happened. And, you know, we knew what we were. We weren’t one of these boy bands that were trying to be something we’re not. We weren’t trying to be cool and hip and trendy. We weren’t trying too hard. We just knew who we were and we stuck to it. We didn’t try to change it. We are about ballads, mid-tempo, up-tempo songs that we like, that are just good fun. And I always think we were just ourselves. We were never fake. What you saw with us was what you got. We always just tried to be ourselves.
Your Greatest Hits Tour in 2012 is going to be amazing. Why is it so important for you guys to kind of do that tour?
It’s a big thank you really and it’s a tribute to our fans, to ourselves. It’s a pat on the back. It’s a celebration. It’s a celebration about what we’ve achieved as a band. It’s a celebration about what the fans have given us. We want to go out on the tour and we want everybody to have a great time. We want it to be happy memories.
Westlifes Greatest Hits has charted for it's ninth week in the UK today which sees it chart at #24, a rise of 2places since Wednesdays midweek position. .
Bressis says Kian will show his true voice! | 21st Jan, '12
Voice of Ireland coach Niall Breslin has insisted that Westlife star Kian Egan can sing - after Brian Kennedy questioned the Westlife star’s vocal abilities.
Tensions have been fizzing between coaches Kian (31) and Brian (45) on the RTE show - on which the boyband star will have to sing live on stage with his acts.
Niall (31) aka Bressie said: “The thing about it is I’ve heard Kian sing. Of course Kian can sing. Brian was just posing a question. It’s something that Brian said and it was taken out of context but you know that’s the type of thing. When you are in this kind of show everything you say is deconstructed. You have to mind yourself because people can take things so wrong.
“It’s interesting when it gets to the live shows because it starts mixing up. We start performing with them. We start performing ourselves. So everything we say to them when we say you have got to do this, that and the other, we have to go on stage.”
Niall has attracted a huge female fanbase on the reality show and he laughed that he won’t need security to keep them at bay. The former Leinster rugby player told the Ray D’Arcy show: “I think I’m alright. I think I can handle myself. I’m not spending money on security when I’m six foot six so I should be alright.”
Niall is also joined by Sharon Corr on The Voice of Ireland panel and he didn’t know the other coaches well before he signed up to the show. He was worried about how they would get on together but he found that they clicked straightaway.
He said: “I wasn’t sure how I’d get on with the three guys cause I’d only really met Brian and kind of met Sharon and that was a worry at the start. Within an hour straightaway we clicked. When you are in a room with somebody and you don’t have to talk that means you are quite comfortable with them. I think that happened quite quickly.”

The Voice of Ireland proves to be a great success | 9th Jan, '12
The opening episode of The Voice of Ireland has proven to be a great ratings success on RTÉ One, with 708,000 tuning in to see the first group of hopefuls.
Sunday's show saw the four coaches - Bressie, Sharon Corr, Kian Egan and Brian Kennedy - pick the first singers they will mentor on their teams.
The coaches were not allowed see the singers, only to hear them, while they sang.
The big shock on the opening show was that singer Tara Blaise, who has released two albums, was not picked by any of the judges from her rendition of Livin' on a Prayer.
There will be four more 'blind audition shows' - where the coaches are not allowed see the singers, only to hear them - which will be followed by three singing battle rounds and then the live performance shows will begin on March 4.
The live shows will run for nine weeks, with the public helping to decide who stays in the competition.
The final four contestants - one for each coach - will compete in the grand final for a recording contract with Universal Music.
